Cardiff Event Photographer – Winter Wonderland @ Cardiff Castle

A Throwback to Last Year

With the festive season just around the corner, I thought I’d take a moment to look back at one of my favourite commercial photography projects from last winter - photographing Winter Wonderland at Cardiff Castle for our long-standing client, Visit Cardiff.

Cardiff really comes alive at Christmas, and Winter Wonderland is always one of the highlights of the season. From the sparkle of the ice rink to the buzz of the Alpine-style beer tent, it’s an event that’s all about atmosphere, fun, and making memories.

Capturing the Spirit of Winter Wonderland

Last year, I was commissioned by Visit Cardiff to capture candid lifestyle photography throughout the event. My focus was on telling the story of the experience – not just the setting, but the people who bring it to life.

  • Candid lifestyle shots inside the busy beer tent, where friends and families enjoyed festive drinks together.

  • On-ice action photography of skaters making the most of the rink, from confident gliders to wobbly first-timers.

  • Atmospheric detail shots of the lights, decorations, and seasonal touches that make Winter Wonderland such a magical part of Cardiff’s Christmas celebrations.

Here are a selection of images from the set that were used across Visit Cardiff’s website and social media, helping to showcase the event and inspire both locals and visitors to get into the festive spirit.

Cardiff Event Photography

As a Cardiff event photographer with nearly two decades of experience, I love projects like this – where I can combine event photography with storytelling, capturing not just how an event looks, but how it feels to be there. Working with Visit Cardiff year after year is always a privilege, and photographing Winter Wonderland was a real highlight.

Looking Ahead to This Year

With Christmas fast approaching, it won’t be long before Cardiff transforms once again with twinkling lights, festive markets, and of course, Winter Wonderland at Cardiff Castle. Looking back at these photographs is a reminder of how special last year’s event was – and I can’t wait to see what this year brings.
