Professional Business Headshots in Cardiff for The Urbanists
The Urbanists are one of my longstanding clients, and over the last 18 months I’ve worked closely with them to photograph new team members as the company continues to grow. What started as a single headshot session turned into a three-part project, with staff portraits taken across two locations: Newport Indoor Market and The Urbanists’ Cardiff headquarters.
The first shoot took place during one of their team days at Newport Indoor Market. It’s a brilliant space with plenty of natural light, so it worked perfectly for the relaxed, professional style of headshots they wanted. We set up in a quiet area of the market and photographed each member of the team using a simple, consistent lighting setup to keep the images clean and natural.
As the team expanded, we arranged two more sessions at their Cardiff city centre HQ. Keeping the lighting and backdrop consistent was really important, especially with the sessions being months apart. Matching the style across all three shoots meant every new headshot slotted seamlessly into their website, social profiles and internal documents.
For each team member, the aim was the same: natural expressions, clean lighting, and a genuine, approachable feel. Most people don’t enjoy being in front of the camera, so a big part of the session is simply helping people feel at ease. A bit of direction, a bit of conversation, and before long they’re relaxed and looking like themselves. That’s the bit I enjoy the most.
Long-term projects like this are one of my favourite things about commercial headshot photography.
